The concept for Fur Fixes arose from the frustrations I encountered both as a working parent and a trainer at a pet supply store. I saw so many people who loved their pets, but either didn't have the financial resources or the time to devote to proper training. Too many pets lose their homes when problem behaviors overwhelm their owners. I wanted to make training more convenient and accessible to all pet owners, and to develop relationships with my clients that go beyond what I was able to accomplish in big group classes.
Mission Statement
The company has three goals which govern every decision. They are:
1. To help keep dogs and cats in their homes and, where possible, find homes for adoptable shelter and rescue animals.
2. To provide professional, personal service to pet owners tailored to each client's specific needs and circumstances.
3. To ensure that the services offered are reasonably priced to serve the community, and structured to offer the greatest convenience.
About Deborah I am a professional dog trainer and have a strong background in cat behavior (can anyone really TRAIN a cat?). I am certified in both cat and dog behavior by the Denver Dumb Friends League, where I teach group puppy classes. I am a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and am an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. My training style is holistic, and I consider an animal's history, diet and medical issues when evaluating behavior. I use positive reinforcement clicker training in my practice and strive to make training fun for pets and their owners. I try to teach not only what clients should do, but also why they're doing it.
I love pets and am fascinated by all the things that make them the wonderful companions they are. My primary goal in my career and in my personal life is to learn all I can, and to be of help to others, whether they have two legs or four.
About Kim I am an experienced dog trainer and have a strong interest in canine behavior. I love to read new books about the way dogs learn and also how they express themselves. I believe strongly in learning to listen to our pets and the signals they are giving us. If we learn to communicate with them on a deeper level, we can have a more profound and enjoyable relationship with each other! I also believe that the most important thing is to enjoy the time we have with our pets and help to provide them with the best possible life. I think training should be fun for both owner and pet. When we're both having fun, we're more likely to retain what we learn as well as be willing to come back for seconds!
I have worked with dogs on many levels and love to try new ways of teaching dogs new tricks. I am also just beginning to delve into the world of training rats and small animals and am excited about the adventure that lays ahead! I strongly believe in positive reinforcement and discourage any type of harsh punishment methods.
I am almost finished with my degree to become a Veterinary Technician and think that training is a perfect companion skill! I love all animals and believe every pet can benefit from fun, positive interaction with their parents!
